Dover Moto has taken up the baton left by the Mother’s for Daughters’ event which was founded in the fall of 2007 when Sharon Alves, a breast cancer survivor and Magnus Thorsson, a local Inn Keeper, were discussing an event that would bring fun and caring motorcyclists together to help raise awareness and money for these two (Breast and Ovarian Cancer Research) worthy causes. Thus Mother's for Daughters' was formed.
May of 2008 was the 1st annual event and was held in West Dover, VT. The event raised $7,000.00 and presented to: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, Inc. Then years 2009 to 2014 raised a further $160,000.
In May of 2015, Dover Moto Group sponsored an event to benefit MFD raising $8,000.00.
From 2007 to 2017 $ 200,000 was raised for the two charities. Fantastic!
Five of the seven Directors of MFD (Sharon, Bob, Stu, Valerie and Tom) decided to call it a day after 10 years of dedicated service to the cause and the event known as Mother’s for Daughters’ came to an end in 2017. Simon and Carina, Dover Innkeepers and MFD Directors remained.
“When the MFD came to an end there was such an overwhelming demand for the continuance of some kind of an event that we decided to continue but we need more help so we grouped together with other local Innkeepers, the Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Dover and decided to continue a motorcycle event under a new name, Dover Moto.”
